This year, One Power Solar, were looking to give back to the community. We chose three local charities to receive a Christmas gift. Each charity was offered the chance to have their next electricity bill paid, to cover the Christmas season costs. As expected, they were very excited to have been chosen this year.
Our first donation went to the amazing Animal Welfare League Queensland (AWLQ). This was to cover the electricity bill of the AWLQ Miami Op Shop. We were lucky to head around on Tuesday and meet the amazing volunteers. Michelle, Queensland retail coordinator, gave us inside to the whole operation of AWLQ.
“We rely heavily on our op shops”, Michelle told us, “Statistically, each animal works out to cost $600 from taking the animal on, until when they are adopted out.”
The amazing volunteers in AWLQ Op Shops make it possible to keep the zero euthanasia policy available for all healthy and rehomable pets.

The next lucky organisation was Volunteering Gold Coast Transport Services. Volunteering Services Australia (VSA) is an initiative of Volunteering Gold Coast Inc. It is the largest volunteer resource centre in Australia, and is one of the top three community transport operators in the country for aged care and people living with disabilities. They are an NDIS provider and have outreach programs across the Gold Coast, Ipswich/Jimboomba and Launceston, TAS.
“As we begin to wind down for the year, we were taken by surprise with One Power’s kind offer. This generosity doesn’t happen every day and I dare say, some of us were a little skeptical.” Said Mark Madden, Transport Services Supervisor, VSA.
“We are so grateful for this kind act. We have a large building that generates large electricity bills monthly. To have this taken care of, relieves some of the stresses, and has given us a spring in our step.” Said Mark.

RSPCA Miami Op Shop was our third charity to receive this gift. Teah, Op Shop and Adoptions Coordinator, was extremely excited when she found out the news. She was so grateful for the donation to one of her stores. RSPCA Animals Queensland (RSPCA Qld) is the state’s oldest, largest and leading animal welfare charity. They assist as many as 56,000 animals a year, which is made possible from the generous donation from the community.
We were lucky enough to meet Mia, the adorable puppy. She was an amazing model, and knew where the camera was!
